Marathon 2022

About this Event

Our Walking Marathon takes place in some of the most scenic places in Connemara! The meeting point for registration and bus transfer is at Maam Community Centre and the route is from Killary to Maam Valley along the Western Way. It is mainly a flat walk, the highest point being Máméan at 259 metres. While about one-third of the walk is on the road, the route is, for the most part, on green road or forest track. There are spectacular views of Killary Fjord, the Maumturks and the Twelve Bens along the route and the walk is a terrific way to experience this part of the country.

A contribution from this event will be made to Galway Mountain Rescue Team in recognition of the excellent service they provide. Galway MRT is a voluntary organisation providing a 24 hr/ 365 days a year essential service for which we are very grateful.

  • Date:  Saturday 13th August 2022
  • Meeting Point: Maam Community, Teernakill North in Connemara, Co. Galway. 
  • Time:  Full Marathon 7.30am . Bus Departure 8.00am
  • Time : Half Marathon 9.00am. Bus Departure at 9.30am
  • Price: €40 per person

The Deadline for registration is Friday 5th August.

Walkers will be taken by bus to the start of the walk.

All participants should bring a pack lunch and water, have walking boots and rainwear. Runners for the road sections are also an option. Bring your own water bottle. We will provide refills, snacks and fruit.

For safety reasons, please tell GWC Marathon volunteers at the nearest checkpoint if you wish to drop out at any stage of the walk. Transport will be arranged back to the centre for you.

CHECKPOINT 5 (Western Máméan car park) WILL BE OUR CUT OFF POINT AT 5.00 PM.
